The Ugly Truth

I originally set out for this to be a blog based on book reviews, but since then I have been showed the many horrors this world has to offer. I recently read an article on the ugly truth of UGG the boots that are not just made out of sheep's wool but also the skin. Yes that is right their skin.  This basically means that the sheep are mutilated unnecessarily. Peta launched a campaign last year to reform the way Australian sheep farmers work. here is a video to show you exactly what goes on. Unfortunately this video is extremely shocking and may not be suitable for some readers.
As you can see these sheep are treated horrifically but this doesn't stop at just sheep. The horrible truth is that most animal products are produced in this way. The only way this is going to stop if farmers are better regulated and they get a better price for their produce. There isn't much we can do when it comes to acts like this apart from protest in form of boycotts. If enough people boycott UGG products maybe we will make a difference. But it isn't just up to us. UGG has make enough profit that they could help reform this all by themselves, by helping farmers rear more appropriate breeds of sheep for the climate. So I ask you this what will you do about this?

Human rights in relation to homosexuals

In citizenship I was set the task of writing an essay on how our understating of human rights has changed since 1945 in relation to gay people.
Pre 1945 being gay was highly criminalised around the world mainly due to the colonial influence of the British empire. The world health organisation also classed it as being a mental illness. Like every human rights issue the UDHR was what got the ball rolling in world reform.
Despite being the ones to cause it to be criminalised worldwide the UK were one of the first to legalise same sex relations. The era of disco and free love was a time of mass change, many of those in the world of celebrity 'came out'. It was in 2001 that same sex relationships were held in some regards as equal to those as a 'normal' relationship as the age of consent was lowered from 21 to that of the same as 'straight' couples. In 2005 gay people were given even more equality with the introduction of civil partnerships and now the legislation is being written up to legalise gay marriage.
What really amazed me was the perception of gay people around the world. Steven Fry's documentary 'out there' really opened my mind. Politician are so incredibly short sited when it comes to this take the Ugandan politician who said that gay rape is wrong and punishable but when a man rapes a woman it is not because it is done the right way. What the hell!!!! And then you have doctors in America providing repairative therapy to 'cure gayness' yes because you can cure someone of who they love. Oh and then there is Brazil who has a statistic of a gay person is murdered every 36 hours. But once again there is a stupid politician blocking an anti homophobia law because according to him most of those murders are done by ex partners. And then we come to Russia. Do i really need to go into how stupid their human rights reversal is. I have said it before and will say it again, how the hell can one of the world leaders take such a step backwards and re-criminalise homosexuality.
In this world gay people are not the issue it is the horrible homophobes who pollute this world with their discrimination. Attitudes have to change and what Steven Fry's documentary showed me was that politicians have to rethink their attitudes to this issue and then the people may also do the same.
But as always

viral videos

So over the last few years we have seen a range of videos which have gone absolutely viral for example gangnam style, what does the fox say and the Harlem shake. What I want to know is what makes them so popular. Because really these videos are not always the best although personally I do love what does the fox say!!! I have decided to include the above mentioned videos in this blog to gauge what you think of them and don't forget about the competition as of yet there have been no entries so really your chances of winning are higher than ever!!!

Teenagers

Teenagers are awkward.
OK well that is quite a blanket statement but in the main it is true. I know I can be quite an awkward teenager especially when it comes to those people I like or that I know possibly like me. This I have to say is happening at the moment. My friend whom I won't name has been acting weird (or shall we say awkward) around me recently and I am not the only one to realise it. It started with him winking at me and then watching my every move as i walked through a classroom no he can barely talk to me. And it is not just the things that I notice him saying. Many of our friends have told me about things he has said to them and the things he wants to say to me.
To be completely honest I want this to stop because i now find it awkward to be round my friends because of this. And to make matters worse one of our friends is just adding fuel to the fire by completely taking the mick out of him.
So as you can see teenagers are awkward and there isn't much we can do about it but I have to say I do believe that we will learn from this period of time to become socially capable adults.

underground festival

I wasn't originally gonna go to underground this year but am I glad I did!!!
For those of you who don't know what I am on about, underground festival is a free gig with loads of local bands playing.
This year I met a couple of new friends who are pretty awesome lol!!!
So we mainly hung around the LAB Records stage and watched Canary Swing, Katie Sky, and Anavae!!!
Canary Swing a couple of songs from their ep which is available on iTunes!!! But they also sung when there is milkshake on the table which I absolutely love!!!
Katie Sky's music was very chill with everyone sat on the floor just relaxing which I really liked! And I have to say I am now a fan of hers!!!
So finally it was Anavae's turn. They have come all the way from London and rocked the place!!! I have been following them for about a year and this was the first time I had seen them live.
Some time for you to see what it was all about. It is photo time!!!

the past

It has been around a year since me and my best friend stopped talking or should I say she stopped talking to  me. I am not entirely sure why we stopped talking we just did. This is something that really makes me sad. You may be wondering why I am writing about this now so I shall tell you. I saw her at work today. she was with her sister and she smiled and said 'hi' but it felt like she really was annoyed that she had seen me. because of that I felt like crying. I had to stop what i was doing for a moment to realise that we will never be friends again. I guess I should have realised when she ignored my Facebook messages or never got back to me when i tried to arrange to meet up. I really tried but at the end of the day at least I have finally acknowledged that the friendship is over.
If the person this is about is reading this I want you to know that I do miss you but never mind just like Noah and the Whale says life goes on.

American Candy

So last week I order some american candy and it arrived at the start of the week!!!
So far I have tried the candy corns which taste weird like fruity fudge, the oh Henry! bar which was just lush and the nerds!!!

I have a slight obsession with american sweets because they are just so different than British sweets. I was a bit disappointed that i didn't receive any salt water taffy (it was a mystery box so I had no choice in the sweet selection) so if any of you lovely Americans would like to send me some I would be very accepting of it!!!

Lemonade Mouth

So I bought Lemonade Mouth on DVD after recently reading the book and I have to say that I was pretty pleased with it. OK yes some things were slightly different but that is what you expect from a film these days!!! Overall I think it stayed pretty close to the books story line.
I have to say that Wen wasn't how I imagined him but then again i am not sure how I really imagined him if I am completely honest.
So just in case you haven't read the book or watched the film (which you really should and in that order) here is the basic story line: five kids from completely different backgrounds with completely different story lines meet at a detention in the music room and completely unintentionally create some music. because they are so good together they decide to form a band.
I loved it and I really think you will too!!!
as normal here are the amazon links for the book and DVD!!!!

People These Days!!!

So I was walking home from getting some courgettes from Aldi when some guy driving his car quite literally pressed his nose up against the car window and stared at me, what haven't you ever seen someone walking before like seriously!!! I always seem to get this, people staring at me like they have never seen a person running or walking before. It is seriously annoying and surely I can't be the only one this seems to happen to!!!

Human Rights

In citizenship at the moment we have been focusing on human rights and it is shocking to discover how many countries disregard human rights. I am currently doing a project on case studies that show examples of where human rights have been denied, protected and enjoyed. When researching for the human rights denied part I was shocked to see how much human rights are disregarded. I mostly think of human rights being disregarded in LEDC's such as Burma but to discover developed countries such as Russia are massive culprits of ignoring human rights. One big case study would be the imprisonment of punk rock band Pussy Riot, they were not only prevented from exercising their right to freedom of speech (article 19 UDHR) but were then subject to an incredibly unfair trial (article 10 UDHR). Another human right that Russia has ignored in legislation is the right to be free to be who you are by outlawing the freedom to acknowledge yourself as being gay (article 2 UDHR) and this was made even more shocking when Russian athlete

Yelena Isinbayeva defended the laws saying “If we allow to promote and do all this stuff on the street, we are afraid about our nation because we consider ourselves like normal, standard people...We just live with boys with woman, woman with boys. Everything must be fine. It comes from history. We never had any problems, these problems in Russia, and we don’t want to have any in the future.” at the athletic world championships in Moscow.

This is wrong for a supposedly developed country, they should be leading the rest of the world by example by promoting human rights not disregarding them and treating your citizens like they are nothing. the definition of human rights is: Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
Every one is entitled to them. If you are human you should be treated like one. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is called universal because that is what it should be Universal and Universal means everybody and everything.

Just a little rant!

So today is a bit of a rant. I love reading but at the moment the only books I seem to be able to find are the first installment of a series of books. Don't get me wrong I love a good series me, but what happened to the days when authors would write a novel and that would be that no prequel novella no series that leads you on for ever. What happened to authors thinking of a new plot and idea of something new they could write for each book they write. I know many would say a series is easier to do because publishing contracts require you to do three or four books but surely by doing that they are just hiding their real writing prowess from the audience, the readers, the people who really matter. They are taking the easy route by just writing several books on the same plot and some writers do so wrong and the reader loses interest because really the story could have been told much better if it was just one book.
Another thing is when authors write a series of ten novellas. Seriously what is the point in that. I personally would rather read it as just one book or possibly two. That way the flow of reading would be much better and you would be able to get into the story much better and easier.
I would love to hear your opinions on this to see if i am not the only one thinking this way!!!

Awakening (The Watchers Trilogy) by Karice Bolton

This is a great book i got from the amazon kindle store for free!!! yes that is right FREE!!!!
I really loved this book because it gives a different outlook on the whole demon vs angels thing. This book is about a girl called Ana who unbeknownst to her is a fallen angel. Around 50 years ago she was separated from her family and doesn't really know who she truly is. Her family have been looking for her and hoping she will one day remember this whole time. The family consists of Athen and Arie  who are siblings and Aries fiancee Cyril. Athen and Ana are also soul mates. This novel tales the families journey through Ana's awakening whilst being hunted down by the demons. These demons  have started tormenting fallen angel families all over the world. Is  it a coincidence or is there a reason for the timing of the pestering? The one thing that bugged me about this is that the family is once again separated at the end of the book. It bugged me because I just wanted to keep reading to find out what they were going to do to solve this  tribulation. It is good though because it makes you want to read the next book of which I sure will be doing!!!
Here is a link to the book at amazon:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Awakening-The-Watchers-Trilogy-ebook/dp/B005R5GX9A/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1377442605&sr=1-1&keywords=awakening
I hope you all go and read this book because i assure you, you will not be disappointed!!!
Thank you
